Third Friday of every month, Take Action! - Iraq Moratorium
The slow-motion train wreck that is the occupation of Iraq grows daily more of a nightmare. In 2006 America voted to bring it to an end. But our politicians have failed to grasp the strain on our military and the depth to which America's influence in the world has fallen. We must force them and our media to recognize just how angry America is, and how massive the anti-war sentiment in this country has become.
The Iraq Moratorium will be an escalating monthly series of actions demanding an end to the war. Starting on Friday, September 21 and on the third Friday of every month thereafter, we will take the time to show our President and Congress that our troops must be brought home, now!

Victory for Farmworkers at Burger King!

Send the farmworkers a congratulations note.

Workers won big last week.  After intense pressure, Burger King agreed to give Florida farmworkers a penny more per pound of picked tomatoes.  That means an annual raise of 71% for the farmworkers who, on average, earn only $10,000 a year under the old wage, and are among this country’s most exploited workers.[1]

This is a huge victory.  Can you take a minute to send a note of congratulations to the farmworkers?

http://action.americanrightsatwork.org/campaign/burger_king_victory

We delivered a petition with 25,000 signatures to Burger King headquarters just a few months ago.  Thanks to the tireless efforts of farmworkers and people like you, the fast food giant finally did the right thing to treat their tomato pickers with respect.

Burger King joins McDonald’s and Yum! Brands (owner of Taco Bell and other national food chains) in increasing wages for these workers, who still have no right to form unions, overtime pay, or benefits of any kind.

There’s a lot of work yet to be done.  But let’s take a moment to celebrate this victory.  Please write a congratulations note, and we’ll make sure your letters reach the farmworkers in Florida.

Thanks for all you do to support workers’ rights.

Sincerely,

Landmark global warming legislation is in danger of being hijacked by Senator John McCain.

Senator McCain has made it known that he would support the “Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act” if specific nuclear subsidies were added.

Now his friend and supporter Sen. Joe Lieberman has done just that — floated an amendment to the global warming bill that would take funds away from clean energy sources like wind and solar and earmark them for the nuclear power industry.

Tell your senator that enough is enough. We can’t let global warming legislation be hijacked by Sen. John McCain and turned into a vehicle for subsidizing the nuclear power industry.

This http://petice.nenasili.cz/?lang=en is a link to a petition that says the following:

“I do not agree with the installation of a US military base on Czech Republic territory, as part of their NMD (National Missile Defense) project. The implementation of this project is increasing international tensions, generating a new arms race and is the first step towards the militarization and control of space. Since more than two thirds of the Czech population are against this project, I think it is only fair that the Czech people have the right to decide on such an important question by means of a referendum.”
